Politics of Crisis: Threatening and Defending Journalistic Expertise—A Processual Account

In this article, we argue for making the frequently invoked notion of “crises journalism” itself proper subject sociological analysis. Based on a case study public controversy over an adversarial TV interview with well-known politician Austria's service broadcaster ORF, provide analysis practical use crisis claims in metajournalistic discourse. Drawing ethnomethodology, interactionism, and situational suggesting discursive trajectory as analytic tool, show that accounts serve instrument politicizing journalistic expertise, i.e., strategy mobilizing heterogeneous actors to impose interpretations how journalism ought be.
